International Workshop on Preservation and Adaptive Reuse of a Historic Town for Resilience with Saga University 2026
The workshop activities involved surveying and designing the restoration of significant historical buildings to connect tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The focus was on the historic town of Hizenhamashuku in Kashima District, Saga Prefecture, a structure built during the Meiji period and registered as a tangible cultural heritage asset of Japan.

Scholarship: Sakura Science funding is subject to confirmation, with the result expected in early September. The Faculty of Architecture will provide partial support for airfare. If the Sakura Science funding is not approved, participants will be responsible for all remaining expenses.

Eligibility: Open to both undergraduate and graduate students of Faculty of Architecture, Kasetsart University (AKU). Applicants must currently be enrolled in the second year or above of a bachelor’s degree programme at the time of application.
Selection Criteria:
Applicants with strong academic performance (GPA) and English proficiency will be prioritized. Preference may also be given to students who have not previously joined international programs to expand participation opportunities.
The faculty selection process was based on two main components:
- Academic performance (GPA) accounting for 50%
- English language proficiency accounting for 50%
Accepted English proficiency test scores include TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, CU-TEP, KU-EPT, TOEIC Bridge, and other verifiable standardized English tests.
EF SET Test scores and non-proctored online tests are not accepted.
As applicants submitted different English test results, including TOEIC, IELTS, TOELF etc, the faculty converted the scores into a comparable standard scale to ensure fairness in the evaluation process before calculating the final weighted score.
In accordance with the program announcement, applicants who had not previously received scholarships under similar international programs were given priority consideration.
The selection process was conducted by the Faculty of Architecture selection committee, and the committee’s decision is considered final.
Please note that shortlisted candidates may be invited for an additional interview to confirm their English communication ability, interpersonal skills, social etiquette, and readiness for participation in an international environment. Details are to be confirmed (TBC).
